Interesting times in the Balkans

Kosovo MPs proclaim independence

Waking up today to read the above headline in bbc news was thrilling. Not in the sense that I have been longing for this moment, but rather that the Balkans has been experiencing interesting times in the last year and this is another to add to the list. With the independence of Montenegro less than a year ago, recognition and sovereignty in the Balkans is a hot topic that will influence a great deal of other separatist movements. And with many of these countries seeking entrance into the EU, many changes to policies and programs are sure to follow. Will it renew issues such as the great FYROM vs. Macedonia topic? Will it fuel the animosity against the Albanian population within the surrounding countries?
